Vicki in Town This Tuesday!

by: navajo

Sun May 02, 2010 at 10:16:35 AM PDT

:: PLAN A ::

We meet at Little Star Pizza on 400 Valencia at 7PM
http://www.littlestarpizza.com...
Then we walk to Martuni's at 8:30PM to arrive just before 9PM.

Vicki will meet us at Martuni's at 9PM.

OMG, last minute announcement! vicki, user ID 1604 and of Cheers & Jeers fame will be in town this coming Tuesday.

The plan is to meet at Martuni's, a piano bar so vicki and Paul Hogarth can sing their guts out. If you love show tunes this event is for you.

Here is the karaoke vid from last year's NN09 DFA event, she's at 2:50 in:

And, Paul Hogarth starts the vid with Springsteen's Born to Run and is featured throughout.

Here is a screen shot of vicki from that vid so you can look for her:

That's ClammyC she is clutching to her breast, lol.

Details are extremely sketchy. vicki is traveling now and working in the Wine Country for a couple of days and flying out early Wednesday a.m.

I believe Martuni's opens at 9PM. Martuni's opens at 2PM, the piano player doesn't arrive until 9PM. We may meet for dinner before but I'm waiting to hear from vicki about when she'll be finished with business.

Stay tuned kids...

Count in oke and rfall (6.00 / 2)

Vicki in Town?!! OMG! (6.00 / 1)
On Tuesdays, I work until 4:30, so I could make dinner and maybe the first hour at Martuni's (I have to be up at 4:30 the next morning to see my trainer, so will likely miss the best of Martuni's--so Navajo, be sure to bring your camera!)  :)

Martuni's Sort of Website (6.00 / 1)
http://martunis.ypguides.net/

And I haven't been there yet in my almost ten years living up here (but have definitely heard about it lots of times).  :)  It says it is open 2 p.m. - 2 a.m., but I assume the singing begins later (is that the 9 p.m.?)

Trying to get details from Paul and vicki (6.00 / 1)
I think the piano players show up at 9PM.

Stay tuned.

vicki is not sure when she will arrive from working in the wine country.

I've Made Arrangements (6.00 / 1)
to see my trainer Thursday, instead--my work day begins at 8:30 on Wed., so I don't know if I'll make it to the last song, but I'll be there.  :)

Good for you! (6.00 / 1)
This is not to be missed.

Oh, I love you guys! (6.20 / 5)
Been in CA for about 6 hours, and wow. Never been to this part of the state before. Fab. U. LOUS.

Can't wait to see you all. Hope to have all details tonight.

HUGS to you all!!
Vicki

PS: Who's that knucklehead "debating" Meg Whitman?

Would love to come! (6.00 / 3)
It'll be my very first SFKossacks event.  And what could be more appropriate for a middle-aged homo like myself than a piano bar that serves big girly martinis?

Count me in!

John

Too late for this guy (7.00 / 1)
Shame, too, cuz  I loves to sing!

You kids be good.

We're meeting for dinner earlier (6.00 / 1)
Not sure where yet, maybe at Martuni's. They open at 2PM but the piano player doesn't start until 9PM.

How Long Does it Take for Pizzas to Be Ready? (0.00 / 0)
There was a question posed whether 6:30 would work better.  I'd argue for 7 (while I can get there at 6:30 as my work day ends at 4:30 on Tuesdays, and I'll likely BART from Rockridge, I don't know if all can get from their work to there in time), but we may need to order our pies sooner than later.  Zachary's asks for at least half an hour (likewise Pizza Chicago in San Jose).  I suspect Little Star may also need that time.  Another option is to ask what pizzas we'd want ahead of time (The Little Star self-themed one with the spinach, feta, and mushrooms sounds like a great one to share, I think, but others may think differently :)  ).

Little Star FAQ sez: (6.00 / 1)
How long do your pizzas take to bake?

Deep dish pizza requires 25 minutes minimum to bake.
A small generally feeds 2 people, a large feeds 3-4.

Thin crust pizzas take a minimum of 12 minutes to bake.
A small generally feeds 2 people, a large feeds 3-4.

So we could order smalls to get variety. I don't know what the wait for a table is like at Little Stars. That's why I suggested maybe 6:30.  I think 7:00 would be ok also.

[ Parent ]
I think there is usually a wait (6.00 / 1)
especially for a group. Maybe 6:30 is better? I usually order on the phone and pick it up to bring home, but it seems to me there is usually a wait....

Great meeting all y'all! (6.25 / 4)
Had a wonderful time at Martuni's this evening.  And that Vicki has some pipes on her.  Will definitely be attending future SFKossack events.

Thanks for a wonderful evening.

Great meeting you also (6.00 / 2)
That was a fun evening and I'm so glad I got a hotel room for the night, I am exhausted.

Pics and vid tonight.

It was Awesome! (6.00 / 3)
Highlights included an encore performance of Vicki's "Oh Darling" and Paul Hogarth's "Bohemian Rhapsody."  A friend of Paul's also did an excellent folk song.  The pianist was excellent.  The crowd was lively and supportive.  Little Star pizza was very good as well.  See some of you on Saturday and on Memorial Day!

I'm so glad you could come (6.00 / 3)
It's always fun hanging out with you.

Can't wait to see the videos (6.00 / 3)
THanks guys for taking my mind off bad news, I had fun!

The video! The video! (6.00 / 2)
Looking forward to seeing the video myself.  Hope we have some of Vicki asking for "order in the court" during her number.  ;-)

What We Are About

A revolution is coming - a revolution which will be peaceful if we are wise enough; compassionate if we care enough; successful if we are fortunate enough - but a revolution which is coming whether we will it or not. We can affect its character, we cannot alter its inevitability.
--John F. Kennedy

You have the power to reclaim our nation's destiny. You have the power to rid Washington of the politics of money. You have the power to make right just as important as might. You have the power to give America a reason to vote again. You have the power to restore our nation to fiscal sanity and bring jobs back to our people. You have the power to fulfill Harry Truman's pledge of health care for all Americans. You have the power to give us foreign policy consistent with American values again. You have the power to take back the Democratic Party. You have the power to take our country back.
--Howard Dean

I am progressive. I am liberal. I make no apologies. I believe government has an obligation to create an even playing field for all of this country's citizens and immigrants alike. I am not a socialist. I do not seek enforced equality. However, there has to be equality of opportunity, and the private sector, left to its own devices, will never achieve this goal.
--Markos Moulitsas

Let us never forget that government is ourselves and not an alien power over us. The ultimate rulers of our democracy are not a President and senators and congressmen and government officials, but the voters of this country.
--Franklin D. Roosevelt

A man may die, nations may rise and fall, but an idea lives on.
--John F. Kennedy

We are trying to construct a more inclusive society. We are going to make a country in which no one is left out.
--Franklin D. Roosevelt

A nation that is afraid to let its people judge the truth and falsehood in an open market is a nation that is afraid of its people.
--John F. Kennedy

If civilization is to survive, we must cultivate the science of human relationships - the ability of all peoples, of all kinds, to live together, in the same world at peace.
--Franklin D. Roosevelt

The liberty of a democracy is not safe if the people tolerate the growth of private power to a point where it becomes stronger than their democratic state itself. That, in its essence, is fascism - ownership of government by an individual, by a group, or any controlling private power.
--Franklin D. Roosevelt

Democracy cannot succeed unless those who express their choice are prepared to choose wisely. The real safeguard of democracy, therefore, is education.
--Franklin D. Roosevelt
