Our party this year will be held at the Wine County home of Andrew McGuire of California OneCare. Andrew's home is a few minutes from Windsor's Old Town Square about 8 to 10 minutes from Healdsburg Town Square.
Don't worry about the weather, Andrew's home is large enough to hold us all inside if it rains, there are large covered porches so people can sit outside. There is a lovely 10 to 30 minute walk you can go on from Andrew's property which is surrounded by vineyards. Bring footwear to handle mud if it rains.
DATE: Saturday, November 19th
TIME: 1:00 PM
LOCATION: Will be given by email to RSVPs
On Saturday, November 19th the SFKossacks will gather for a midday potluck event, potluck signup is below. Eight board members of California OneCare will join us, they include Kossacks nyceve and Shockwave. At 5:00 PM, Norman Solomon will join us.
MAJOR UPDATE: THE 7PM FUND RAISER HAS BEEN CANCELED BUT MR. SOLOMON WILL STILL JOIN US AT 5:00 PM FOR DESSERT.
before the 7:00 PM evening fundraiser Andrew is holding for Mr. Solomon.
Andrew McGuire cordially invites you for desserts, wine, coffee, etc., and most importantly to meet our friend, author and progressive political activist Norman Solomon.
Join us in supporting Norman's Congressional campaign to succeed Lynn Woolsey in the newly redrawn North Coast congressional district. Though this is an opportunity to get to know Norman, it is also a fundraiser! A donation is not required, but please bring your checkbooks and credit cards.
Andrew wants me to reiterate that donations from SFKossacks are NOT mandatory to attend the evening event. It's a nice opportunity to meet like minded persons.
Please RSVP in the comments. The final RSVP and Potluck list will live here at SFKossacks.
RSVP and POTLUCK LIST:
Need more wine and salads.
Dessert is being provided, so no more is needed.
Andrew and the board of One Care will be providing BBQ'd Salmon and other seafood. Andrew will also be providing all the heavy duty paper plates and plastic utensils.

MAJOR UPDATE! MONDAY OCT. 31ST: JILL IS CANCELING AND WILL NOT ATTEND. THE SHOW HOWEVER WILL GO ON. METEOR BLADES IS STILL ATTENDING BOTH THE DINNER AND THE TOUR ARE ON. I'M SENDING PRIVATE EMAILS TO ALL THE RSVPs TODAY. --Neeta
UPDATE FROM JILL:
Here are the details from Ann that we've got so far. She wants to know if people have questions they want to ask the farmworkers so she can plan which people we'll meet with based on who can answer questions the best. And she's asking donations on a sliding scale ($10-$50) to her nonprofit. She's also got her (EXCELLENT) book on farmworkers available for $25, which is a deal, since it goes for $55 full price.
(If anyone doesn't have the ability to donate I can cover you. -Neeta)
Meeting Place and time in Watsonville for tour:
Sunday, Nov. 6th at 2 PM in the parking lot behind the Burger King at the junction of Hwy 129 and Main St. in Watsonville.
Sunday Nov. 6th Tour RSVPs:

Reposted from Daily Kos on behalf of Jill Richardson by navajo
SF Kossacks: Do you have more clothes than you know what to do with? Or some toys your kids never even play with? Or just a lot of compassion for fellow human beings in need? (Yeah, you're liberals, so I know you do.)
I'm heading up to the Bay Area in a few weeks around the time of a Food Justice conference I'm attending (Nov 4-8). On Nov 6, I'm going to skip out of the conference for a "Farmworker Reality Tour." (Want to come? I'm in the process of getting details on where/when/how much $.)

Together with Navajo, Meteor Blades, and Ann Lopez, the founder of the Center for Farmworker Families, we'll be meeting up with Mexican farmworkers and their families to learn about their lives. If you've got any donations for the farmworkers, we will be glad to bring them with us. Details on what is needed below.

No, not that I need one. For the next few months, at least, I have a temp job that pays well (*very* well for out here) and I want to get a care package together and send it out to y'all as a thank you.
There are several wineries near here (yes, I live in what passes for wine country here. It is just like rain on your wedding day) as well as antiques, gift shops and souvenir stands.
What I was thinking was to spend the next month or two collecting stuff and shipping the box back there for you to divvy up.
I won't have anything with a Confederate flag on it, as that sickens me. But t-shirts, small items, even some wine if it's possible to ship may be doable.
Just let me know if this is a good idea or not. And thank you again.

Just wanted to give you a very early heads up that I'm visiting the Bay Area in November. And, actually, if anyone among the SF Kossacks wants to join me, I'm participating in a wonderful few days of events. You can see them here: http://www.foodsovereigntytour... - they are food and ag-related field trips that are organized in conjunction with the Community Food Security Coalition annual conference, which will be in Oakland. The field trips are Nov 4-5, the conference Nov 6-8. The field trips are amazing and expensive but worth it. The conference is great and also expensive ($240) and I'm not registered for it because that's just too much money for me to afford (esp since I get migraines from powerpoint projectors and don't go to many sessions for that reason). So I'll be up there Nov 4-5 for the field trips, and then Nov 6 a friend is taking me on a "Farmworker Reality Tour" to Watsonville to see how farmworkers live. She's fluent in Spanish and will be translating for me. I'd have to ask but I'm sure she'd be glad to have others along, although they might need to provide their own transportation. And I don't think there's a cost for going with us to meet the farmworkers, although I know she'd appreciate donations from anyone who participates, either money or clothes, food, and supplies that can go to the farmworkers and their families. She's got a non-profit set up so donations are tax deductible.
I'm gonna be staying with a friend in Oakland and Nov 4-6 will be busy days for me, but before/after that are free. I don't know how long I'm staying for but I figure that it would be easy enough to come a few days early or leave a few days late to make sure I have a chance to visit everyone who needs to be visited in the Bay Area.
Jill
I'll be in contact with Jill regarding her visit and we'll set up a dinner or pot luck event either before or after her conference.
Please leave a comment if you are interested about that or going on the Farm Worker Reality Tour. I think that sounds very interesting and would make a great photo diary.

Consider this your early notice. Hope 35 days is enough for most of you.
Ever since SallyCat's little shindig, I have been on the clock for hosting a little soiree for the hip cats of the Bay. My new employment gig has made me kick the can a bit, but I have not reneged my offer. Initially I had hoped to make it happen in July June May, but stuff kept coming up and some folks couldn't attend any weekend that worked for me.
Sooo....barring SNAFU galore, let us make it official, if that is possible.
SFKossacks' East Bay Soiree:
August 6th
Montclair (Oakland Hills)
4PM - 8pm ???
Some people seem to think my view seems nice and that this place would be a fun location to hang out for a few hours.

Would S.F. Kossacks be interested in donating small amounts to mail clothes to Native Americans in the Dakotas?
Navajo has previously posted dairies to raise funds for unexpected natural gas bills incurred by Native Americans on reservations in the Dakotas, particularly during the past two harsh winters. And several years ago Sally Cat collected clothes from S.F. Kossacks for Pretty Bird Woman House.
For a Kossacks project I did a few years ago I paid for postage on goods (donated by S.F. Kossacks) sent in care packages to soldiers serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. This time I'm offering the reverse, to send clothes I've purchased over the past several months if S.F. Kossacks will chip in for postage.
Originally I'd bought the clothes (mostly men's/larger teen boys sizes, some women's sizes; a few could pass as "unisex" styles) with the intention of donating them to the V.A. Hospital in Palo Alto (which specializes in treating soldiers with PTSD and TBI's from battles in Iraq/Afghanistan.) However, I accumulated more than expected. Since many of the items are sweaters and turtleneck shirts, I thought they might be useful in fighting the chill of the harsh winters in the Dakotas.
If enough people are interested, and if Navajo is agreeable, I'd suggest the best way to donate is via this S.F. Kossack site, then Navajo can reimburse me for the amount collected. Again, I'm only asking for postage, not reimbursement for the clothes. Once we have an estimate of how much can be collected I can get an idea of how many items can be sent. (As the sweaters are bulky, using the USPS Flat Rate boxes would probably not be cost beneficial, unfortunately. Which means regular USPS or other freight rates.)
If money can be raised, which NA group(s) should they be sent to? A couple of groups I've sent clothes to in the past had specified a need for younger children's sizes, so I'm not sure who is in most need of adult/teen sizes.

A revolution is coming - a revolution which will be peaceful if we are wise enough; compassionate if we care enough; successful if we are fortunate enough - but a revolution which is coming whether we will it or not. We can affect its character, we cannot alter its inevitability.
--John F. Kennedy
You have the power to reclaim our nation's destiny. You have the power to rid Washington of the politics of money. You have the power to make right just as important as might. You have the power to give America a reason to vote again. You have the power to restore our nation to fiscal sanity and bring jobs back to our people. You have the power to fulfill Harry Truman's pledge of health care for all Americans. You have the power to give us foreign policy consistent with American values again. You have the power to take back the Democratic Party. You have the power to take our country back. --Howard Dean
I am progressive. I am liberal. I make no apologies. I believe government has an obligation to create an even playing field for all of this country's citizens and immigrants alike. I am not a socialist. I do not seek enforced equality. However, there has to be equality of opportunity, and the private sector, left to its own devices, will never achieve this goal. --Markos Moulitsas
Let us never forget that government is ourselves and not an alien power over us. The ultimate rulers of our democracy are not a President and senators and congressmen and government officials, but the voters of this country.
--Franklin D. Roosevelt
A man may die, nations may rise and fall, but an idea lives on.
--John F. Kennedy
We are trying to construct a more inclusive society. We are going to make a country in which no one is left out.
--Franklin D. Roosevelt
A nation that is afraid to let its people judge the truth and falsehood in an open market is a nation that is afraid of its people.
--John F. Kennedy
If civilization is to survive, we must cultivate the science of human relationships - the ability of all peoples, of all kinds, to live together, in the same world at peace.
--Franklin D. Roosevelt
The liberty of a democracy is not safe if the people tolerate the growth of private power to a point where it becomes stronger than their democratic state itself. That, in its essence, is fascism - ownership of government by an individual, by a group, or any controlling private power.
--Franklin D. Roosevelt
Democracy cannot succeed unless those who express their choice are prepared to choose wisely. The real safeguard of democracy, therefore, is education.
--Franklin D. Roosevelt
